The Way Beyond

Geri Coop is principal practitioner at The Way Beyond and has been practising remedial massage for several years, adopting various techniques from round the world along the way. She trained in Tui Na at the Bodyharmonics Centre in Cheltenham, the UK base for Tui Na run by Maria Mercati, who has studied and practised in China.

Geri has also studied the Alexander Technique since 1994 when she found it the solution to an injury. The principles of the Alexander Technique instill an awareness of use of the body, inhibition of harmful ways of being and creation of true relaxation. These are an inherent part of Geri's life and she combines them naturally with massage to give both immediate and long term benefits. Her approach enables clients to recognise habitual tension or poor use of their bodies and so avoid perpetuating painful or detrimental conditions.

With a long history of injuries arising from a congenital condition, Geri has found ways of healing and fitness training that have enabled her to enjoy a physically demanding lifestyle involving steeplechasing, long distance riding, rock climbing, potholing, fell-running, kayaking and martial arts. All this despite being told at eight years old that her condition would put her in a wheelchair by the time she was thirty! That experience of keeping herself fit against the odds has given her a wealth of healing techniques and, importantly for many of her clients, it means she will help them way beyond the point where others say, "that's as good as it gets, live with it".

Geri's current passion is aikido, a Japanese martial art. Practising aikido has given her both the greatest challenges to physical health and huge satisfaction in increased healing energy and insights.
